Memo turns things you say into tasks. This page describes exactly what leaves your phone, who handles it, and what is kept.

Your tasks stay on your phone

Every task, note and journal entry is stored only in the app, on your device. There is no sync, no backup, and no copy on any server. Delete the app and that data is gone.

What leaves your phone

• A recording of what you dictate. When you tap the microphone, audio is recorded and sent for transcription. It is deleted as soon as the text comes back — it is never stored.
• The resulting text, along with the titles and dates of your currently open tasks, so that what you say can be matched against them. This is sent for interpretation and is not stored.

Nothing is sent unless you press the microphone or send button.

Who processes it

OpenAI performs the transcription and interpretation, as a service provider. Requests pass through a server operated by the developer, which attaches the API credentials and records how much each account used. Request contents are not logged.

What the server stores

• Your email address, from Sign in with Apple. If you chose Apple's Hide My Email, only the relay address is received.
• An account identifier.
• For each request: the time, which operation, and how many tokens or seconds of audio it used, so usage can be capped. The words themselves are not stored.

What is not done

• No tracking, advertising, or analytics services.
• No data is sold or shared beyond the processor named above.
• No profile is built about you.

Deleting your data

Settings → Account → Delete account removes your account and everything the server holds about it, immediately. Deleting the app removes the tasks on your phone. The two are separate, and doing one does not do the other.

Permissions

The microphone and speech recognition are used only while you are dictating. Notifications, if allowed, are scheduled on the device and are not sent from a server.
